Of December 14, 2011 were approved as posted.
The Council conferred the First Degree on the following:
The Grand Knight Reported:
Welcome. Thanks for coming. Thanks for remembering about our new meeting place and time.
We’ll see who shows up from St. Peter’s at 8:05 after they went there first. As you can see, Santa
delivered our new portable podium.
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year celebration.
Since our last meeting, we’ve had Olney Theater, Christmas Party, Caroling, and a Second Degree.
Thanks to Chuck Cozad, Innocent d’Almieda, and all who made those things happen and attended
them.
Thanks to Greg Wolf, our webmaster, lots of pictures posted on website.
We’ve also had two funerals: Vince Pepper and Bill Ketter. That makes five council members who
have passed away this fraternal year.
The Council received our $1K matching donation from anonymous donor for Seminarian Fund.
The GK received his January newsletter on 12/24. It is hoped that all have received it. The
newsletter had to go to press early due the school vacation schedule for our newsletter servicer.
January issue of The Beacon is posted on our website. The Council is on P. 5 for Pro-life Rally
and P. 7 for Coats for Kids.
On Saturday January 7, Deacon Cadigan and the GK and spouses attended the State Mid-Year meeting
for GKs and DGKs. The theme was focused on recruiting new members by becoming ‘Fishers of Men’
and getting ‘Fish in the Boat.’
The Council has only seven new members this year and two others who are ready for First Degree.
The Council quota is 33, counting suspensions and withdrawals. We need to do a lot better. We
can do a lot better and we can still revive our tradition and make Star Council this year.
Every program we have is a recruiting opportunity. Invite friends to our events so they can see
what we do. We are the bait, our own advertisement, to get fish in the boat.
The GK collected lots of recruiting handouts at the meeting. One of them was an ‘Invitation’ to
send to prospects. The GK has asked you several times to invite a friend to join and said they
might just surprise you and say yes.
The GK announced that he is going a step further. He passed around a sheet and asked each member
to write down his name and the name, address, and phone number of someone you know who you think
would be a good Knight. Then the GK will send them an Invitation saying that they’ve been
identified as someone who we’d be proud to have in our order and that someone will be contacting
them about joining. If the prospect’s address and phone number is not known at this time, just
put their name. Then members can call or email the GK with the info. One name of someone is
needed from each of you.
We are the ‘boots on the ground.’ We need to put our faith in action by supporting our council
and recruiting new members to ensure the growth of our Order. The Council will be having
recruiting drives at St. Pat’s and St. Peter’s in the spring. That’s not enough. Members need
to ask a friend now.
