Grand Knight's Message
A NOTE OF THANKS
I wanted to pass along a note I received from one of our very own Seminarians. Jim is a Brother Knight here at Fr. Peter Paul Maher Council. This is only one of the things we do as a Council that we should be very proud of. We do make a difference in the lives of people we touch, from our Seminarians to the residents of Inwood house.
Worthy Grand Knight -
I wanted to thank you and the Council again for your generous stipend and also for the extra funds to help defray the cost of my brother seminarians who came down to Washington for the Annual March for Life. Several of the seminarians would not have been able to attend but for the Council's help. This goes a long way to cement relations between the Knights and these future clergymen. I am proud to be associated with the Knights in general but with our Council in particular. These guys get tired of me bragging about you. The officials from the Massachusetts State Council (next paragraph) were more than a little surprised when I told them how many seminarians # 6793 support. Your generosity is amazing.
Attached is a picture of us at Monday's march. I'm at the back of the picture. Also in the picture are several members of the Massachusetts State Council, Past State Deputies Tom Ledbetter and Dick Guerriero, present State Warden Tom McGinn, and State Secretary Bill Donovan. The Massachusetts State Council paid for the bus to bring us (and the four of them) down to the March. And again, the support from Fr. Maher Council made it possible to help cover the housing costs for a couple of the guys who might not have been able to come otherwise. I made sure they knew who to thank.
As always, be assured that you all are in my prayers, and that I am ever grateful for your spiritual and monetary support. May God continue to bless you and your families and also let you see how your charity is a true sharing in His life and His activity in this world. Thanks again,
Jim Boccabella, Blessed John XXIII National Seminary
Thank You, Jack Giacalone, Grand Knight
Chaplain's Message
by Fr. Louis Tou
TEMPTATION
These days, temptations have become somewhat unfashionable. Either they attach themselves to the sixth and ninth commandments, or they are considered too petty. Temptation is commonly understood as an inducement to sin, to wrongdoing. In a sense it is a normal part of the human condition, a natural consequence of human freedom and choice. Indeed, it would be impossible to avoid all the allurements of evil that ordinary life contains. The occasion of temptation may be any stimulus that provokes a response of attraction to moral evil, but the ultimate source is the inclination to sin that seems to be so much part of fallen human nature, the residual effect of what is called original sin.
Through the Sacrament of Baptism our original sin is cleansed. However, our personal sin or sins, especially the mortal sins, are forgiven through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. God is our Father, Christ is our Savior, and the Holy Spirit is the Divine Grace by which our sins are forgiven. Please, let us walk through the 14 Stations of the Cross with our Lord to the Calvary!
District Deputy Message
by Earnest Harley
On February 2, 2007, the State of Maryland entered into its Spring Membership/ Recruitment Blitz for all Councils that are in the State. The strength and stability of the Knights of Columbus depend strongly on its membership, thus membership will continue to be the priority of the State, as well as that of the District. The Blitz is to last from February 2nd until March 11th, 2007.
Recruitment efforts should focus not only on bringing new members to the Order, but at the same time, to place emphasis on being a Knight of Columbus, and the working in the Church Community at large. The recruitment period coincides with the coming Lenten Season as we renew our faith. Our vocation as Knights of Columbus is to go forth and to attract new members to the Order, bringing to the new recruits the good news.
It is the final half of the Fraternal year 2006 - 2007. Start the remaining portion of the year in a positive manner, with each member in District #11 recruiting a new member. May we dedicate ourselves this coming year to strengthen the Councils, indeed the Order, by giving all of our energy to this common goal: membership recruitment.
Fraternal Benefits
A Widow's World is a Tough One...
When a man dies, so does his income. His pension is usually cut in half. His widow gets her husband's social security ... but loses hers. His group life insurance has been eliminated or greatly reduced.
Welcome to the world of our widows, gentlemen. Statistically your death will put her at or below the poverty level. Now she must survive for another 10-15 years .... or longer.
Perhaps now is the time, for your K of C agent to help you do the planning that's necessary to avoid this situation. If you don't crunch the numbers with a pro ... you're guessing with the amateurs.
There is too much on the line not to nail this one down, my brother Knights. Now is the time for us to review your family's life insurance needs. Together, I can help you take the "IF" out of LIFE.
Fraternally, Rick Morin, FICF/LUTCF -- Your K of C Insurance Agent -- (301) 384-7627

Prizes will be awarded to children for finding the specially marked eggs. All children will receive an Easter candy bag and there will be Cookies and punch for everyone. So come join the fun, I know the kids will love it.

Please join us on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Grotto of the Blessed Mother, next to the Cottage on the grounds of the Marian Assisted Living Center, to recite the rosary. You do not have to be a member of the Knights of Columbus to participate and please remember to bring your Rosaries.
Soup, bread and soft drinks will be served at the cottage following the Rosary. We will meet at the cottage at 7:30 and walk over to the grotto.
Please plan to attend.....
Caribbean Cruise Vacation
Once again, Fr. Maher Council is sponsoring a Caribbean cruise. The September/October cruise raised nearly $2,500 for our Council's Charitable Corporation. We hope to raise more from this next fun filled event. The next cruise is for Feb. 3 to Feb. 15, 2008 on the largest cruise ship afloat and directed to seven of the best islands in the Caribbean. For details, see the attached flyer. Since this cruise encompasses Valentine's Day, what better gift could you give your spouse. But you must hurry since availability of staterooms at this group price is limited. A deposit of $900 to hold a stateroom is due not later than March 12, 2007. Final payment is due November 25, 2007. If you have any questions please call Dick Sherbert at 301-774-0998.
See Flyer for Additional Details
Divine Mercy Sunday
Once again the Peter Paul Maher Council of the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring an Hour of Prayer to be held on Divine Mercy Sunday. This will occur on April 15th at 3:00 pm at St. Peter's Church. The significance of this particular feast was so important to our late Holy Father John Paul II, that he has attached the opportunity for a Plenary Indulgence for all those who participate in its observance. All Brother Knights and their families are encouraged to attend. Additional details will be forthcoming in on-going parish bulletins.
For additional information please contact Tom McManus at tjmcmanus@verizon.net or via telephone, at 301-990-4105.
