Council Service Opportunities
As you already know our new fraternal year begins on July 1, 2007. That means in addition to accepting officer nominations we welcome our Brother Knights to take on other important roles to assist our council to provide outstanding and creative service programs in the 5 service areas: Youth, Family, Church, Community, and Council. It is important that our council fill these positions with Brother Knights with new ideas, and new energy to ensure our council will grow and continue to benefit the community support and charitable programs of Fr. Peter Paul Maher Council.
I know that some of our members are eager to participate but don't know what positions are available, what they entail and how much time is required to perform them. To answer these and other questions the council has prepared a short, half hour "Council Service Opportunity" program as part of the Hot Dog Social on Wednesday April 25th, beginning at 7:00 PM and the 1st degree on Wednesday May 23rd, beginning at 7:00 PM in the Olney Inn Room. Spouses are welcome to participate on April 25th and after the 1st degree on May 23rd.
The only thing we need to make the upcoming year a success is "YOU." Only a few hours can make a big difference. Please make this the year you take an active part in our council and I know you will have the "Experience of a Lifetime."
Thank You, Jack Giacalone, Grand Knight

HOLY WEEK
On March 7, I received an invitation letter from Rev. Msgr. Walter R. Rossi, the Rector of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. He invited me to participate in the liturgies of Holy Week at the National Shrine, since now I am a multiple language confessor for the Shrine. The main celebrant for the week will be the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Sambi. I accepted the invitation.
Holy Week, the week preceding Easter, beginning with Palm (Passion) Sunday, is called the "Great Week" in the liturgies of the Eastern Churches. It marks the Church's annual celebration of the events of Christ's Passion, death, and Resurrection culminating in the Paschal Mystery. (Catechism, 1169)
The Easter Tridium begins on Holy Thursday, the most solemn liturgy which commemorates the Last Supper, the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. Good Friday celebrates the Passion: the capture, scourging, and the crucifixion for our salvation. Then, Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil includes 4 parts of the beautiful and solemn liturgy: Light Service, the Liturgies of Word, Baptism, and Eucharist. Dear Worthy Knights and Brothers, let us prepare ourselves spiritually, psychologically, and physically to receive our personal salvation from our Redeemer, the Risen Lord. Alleluia! Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat!

The Spring Membership/Recruitment Blitz has come to an end. Now the real work begins, with the First Degree Exemplification of all those potential candidates that signed the Form 100, and for each Council to go after those many persons who submitted cards of interest. The cards of Interest, with a determined efforts on the part of each Council Membership Director, and Membership Team, should now become signed Form 100s, thus another set of candidates become available to be Exemplified in the First Degree of the Knights of Columbus.
It is a great occasion when the Council recruits new members. It is the First Degree that establishes membership and the strength of the Council. It is at that point that a humble member is accepted into the ranks of the Knights of Columbus and starts his journey to full Knighthood.
I am looking forward to all of the Councils making Star Council this Fraternal Year, 2006 - 2007. It is not too late. With the store of candidates from the Council Summary Blitz reports, and a continuing recruitment effort for the next six to eight weeks, success is assured. Contact your Fraternal Insurance Adviser; explaining to him the Council's desire to become Star Council, with his background, and experience, he can assist you in claiming that honor.

INSURANCE NEWS: IT TAKES MORE THAN MONEY
Most commodities can be bought; provided you -
In like manner, most investments such as real estate, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bank accounts; required only an arm's length agreement and a deal is struck. All it takes is money!
There is one notable exception to the above statements. The purchase of life insurance. When the purchase of life insurance is considered, in addition to setting aside dollars, the prospective insured must prove that he or she is in good health. If an individual is deemed to be "uninsurable", no amount of money will make this commodity available to that person.
The ability to qualify for life insurance is an asset that is temporary at best. Without warning, your health can fail, and you may never be able to add to your life insurance program. Other hazards may prevent you from qualifying as well. For example; your occupation, character or even old age. What would happen if you suddenly woke up and decided to buy life insurance, but had lost your ability to qualify for it? Ever think about that?
I can tell you about our guaranteed purchase option. Think of that! The ability to secure additional insurance, depending on the amount of your option, on a guaranteed basis- without necessarily being in good health. This option can be added at issue of a new certificate up through age 37. Find out at your convenience how little it costs to guarantee the right to increase your protection.
Call me today, to discuss this or any of the Knights of Columbus insurance programs. We offer a portfolio of whole life, term, and blended life insurance products. As well as Annuities, IRA's, Roth IRA's, SEP's, and Long Term Care insurance.
