Grand Knight's Message
Thank You
As I write my last Grand Knight's message for Knightly News, it saddens me to think that two years have already raced by. It seems like just yesterday I was writing my first article for the newsletter and now I am filled with emotion and don't quite know how to say what's in my heart; but here it goes.
The last two years were full of a great deal of personal satisfaction for what we accomplished as a Council. We had some changes that challenged us, disappointments that taught us, achievements that inspired us, and success that drove us. But we could not have succeeded if it were not for the dedicated brothers, spouses and their children who gave their time and energy, time after time.
Standing side by side, working tirelessly to ensure Church, Council, Community, Family, and Youth programs of our Council were effectively prepared and successfully presented. I am proud to have worked with all of you during the past two years and am proud to call you my friends. Thank You.
I would like to add a special thanks to my wife Phyllis for her undying support, advice, encouragement, and gentle correcting over the past two years. If not for her Love and support none of this would have been possible, I Love you....
It is now time to turn our attention to the new fraternal year. I know that you will continue to support the incoming Grand Knight and his team with the same dedication and enthusiasm you do so well.
Thank You, Jack Giacalone, Grand Knight
Chaplain's Message
by Fr. Louis Tou
May, Month of Our Blessed Mother
According to a venerable tradition, the devotion of the Holy Rosary was revealed to St. Dominic by the Blessed Virgin, and he used it as a powerful weapon against the heresy of the Albigenses in the 13th century. The Blessed Virgin said to him: This land will always be sterile until rain falls on it. Saint Dominic was then given to understand that this rain was the devotion of the Rosary, which he was to propagate. This the Saint indeed did, and it was embraced by all Catholics; so much so that, even to the present day, there is no devotion so popularly prayed by the faithful of all classes as that of the Rosary.
My brother Knights, let us recite the Rosary daily for the devotion to Our Blessed Mother.
Mary Queen of the Knights, pray for us!
District Deputy Message
The Fraternal Year is rapidly drawing to a close, but there is still time for the Councils to recruit new members and qualify for Star Council, the greatest reward for an outgoing Grand Knight. Forty days remain in the year and the term of the current Grand Knight. What a way to go, with the Council making its quota plus, of new Knights of Columbus, to the order.
The District has four First Degrees scheduled for the months of May and June. This is ample opportunity to recruit and to First Degree a set of new members not only for the Council, but for the District, for the State, and for the Order. Gentlemen let us complete the requirements set forth by the order. Let us continue to recruit.
The new slate of Officers has been decided upon, and the probability that elections of new Officers for the coming Fraternal Year are completed. Several forms, Form 185, and Form 365, should have been completed, and are on their way to the Supreme Knight, the State Deputy, and the District Deputy.

KNIGHTS PRESENT ST. JOAN OF ARC EXHIBIT
The Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven, CT, will present an exhibit celebrating the cultural legacy of the French medieval heroine Joan of Arc (c. 1412-1431) through Labor Day.
Joan's extraordinary life has inspired many, and her image has been appropriated for a variety of causes during the centuries since her death.
LEARN ABOUT OUR ORDER
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 13,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam, and Saipan.
MAKE A VISIT TO THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MUSEUM
Opened in 2001, the Knights of Columbus Museum is just two blocks from the Supreme Council office, and features both special exhibits of religious art and history, and a large permanent exhibit showcasing the Order's history.

A WORTHLESS PIECE OF PAPER
One of my fellow field agents recently called on a Brother Knight who had allowed his Knights of Columbus insurance policy to lapse by not paying his premiums. This field agent simply called back to ask if he would please return the lapsed policy. Because the member considered the policy to be worthless now, he asked the agent why he wanted it back.
The field agent replied that when the member died, he wanted to avoid the unpleasant task of explaining to his widow and children that the policy was worthless. He wanted to avoid the excitement the widow would feel when she found what she thought was a life insurance policy, only to become further depressed when she found it was useless and belonged in the wastebasket.
Fortunately, the story has a happy ending. The member in question was able to conserve this valuable protection for his loved ones by reinstating his insurance.
Call me today to discuss your insurance needs. Let's not have any surprises for your widow.
