Grand Knight's Message

Thank you for your confidence in me to lead us through our new fraternal year. It has been my pleasure to serve as your Warden, Chancellor, and Deputy Grand Knight for almost 5 years. Thanks to all of my Brother Knights and their wives who have worked tirelessly, selflessly, and optimistically to complete our Council's tradition of good works. Special thanks to our immediate Past Grand Knight, Jack, and his wife Phyllis who led us through a most successful 2 years and who put us back on track, by ending this past year as a "Star Council Year."

Jack's help and encouragement, along with the love and support of my wife, Grace, have prepared me for the challenge of serving as your Grand Knight. Under Jack's leadership, we have become more involved with all of our activities, Church, Community, Council, Family, and Youth. I would particularly like to emphasize our growing involvement in Church and Youth activities. Please "Help Us Help Others" by your participation in at least one of our many activities and also by helping us to recruit willing new members in order to continue our Council's fine tradition of earning "Star Council."

Thank you, Harry F. Bushar, Grand Knight

Chaplain's Message: Month Of Sacred Heart Of Jesus

DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

Born in the diocese of Autun, France, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque consecrated her heart, while yet a child, to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In 1675 she was chosen by God to reveal to the Christian World the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Father de la Colombiere and she were the chief instruments in instituting the Feast of the Sacred Heart. She died in 1690.

From the first moment of the incarnation, God in Jesus began to love with a human heart, capable of beating with intense love and compassion and experiencing all human emotions. In the Heart of Jesus divine richness meets human poverty and His grace encounters the frailty of human nature. Because the Father has assigned all judgment to His Son, it is in the Heart of Jesus that humankind will meet its final destiny.

Today, many parishes have special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: Mass, Eucharistic Adoration-Benediction, and Recitation of the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Worthy Brother Knights, I sincerely hope all of us will participate in the devotions of our parishes on the first Friday of every month, to be closer to the Heart of Jesus!

Because this is my last Chaplain's message, I want to thank Jack Giacalone, our Grand Knight, and all of you Dear Brother Knights.

It certainly was a challenge and a privilege to be your Chaplain. Finally, congratulations to all the newly elected officers!

District Deputy Message

by Ernest E. Harley, District Deputy, # 11

The Fraternal Year is about over and it is my privilege to offer congratulations and to thank you for an exceptional year, for those Officers leaving their posts, and are moving onward and upward to greater things in their Councils, and in the Knights of Columbus.

Each of you have done well in the District, and I offer my sincere appreciation for your faithful services.

Now it is time for the new administrations to take their places and guide their respective Councils in the same manner but to a greater level of accomplishments than their predecessors. Congratulations on your election to the many positions of your Councils.

Endeavor to do well. Give strong efforts to make your Councils winners in every area of Service to the Church and to the Knights of Columbus.

Keep in mind that membership in the Knights of Columbus strengthens not only the Order but also your Council. The number of programs created by the Council needing volunteers can only be successful if you have the Knights available to accomplish the many tasks.

The many programs, in the various Service Areas, need not only great planning, but a corps of Council volunteers dedicated not only to finishing the tasks, but to finish them well. So it is my honor to offer you my assistance, everywhere needed, and to wish you God speed.

Fr. Peter Paul Maher Council has donated eight Baby Changing Stations, four to St Peter's and four to St Patrick's. Each Church will place two in the restrooms in the Church and two will be in the rest rooms in the Parish Hall/Center. The changing stations were delivered in June and should be installed by months end.

A special thanks to Marc Long for recognizing the need, heading up the project and delivering the stations to the Churches.

By-laws Revision

A meeting of the By-Laws committee was held on Wednesday, June 6, at 7 PM at the cottage. In attendance were Chairman Gene Kane, Dick Sherbert, Harry Bushar, Steve Goldhammer, Innocent d'Almeida and Jack Giacalone. Changes were proposed and approved by the committee. Under the By-Laws provisions the By-Laws may be amended by a two thirds vote of the members present and voting at a regular business meeting held subsequent to a regular business meeting at which a resolution in writing providing for such an amendment shall have been given to the members in writing or in a council publication at least 5 days prior to the second meeting. This resolution was read at the June 13th business meeting and published in this July 2007 newsletter. The vote on this resolution will take place at the July 11, 2007 business meeting. The resolution outlines the proposed changes; the entire By-Laws can be reviewed online.

FATHER PETER PAUL MAHER COUNCIL
Knights of Columbus
RESOLUTION TO AMEND COUNCIL BY-LAWS
Whereas: The expenses for the operation of our Council have increased such that the current dues of $40.00 are insufficient and $45.00 in dues would be sufficient.
Whereas: The Council needs to meet earlier than previously scheduled time of 8:00 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. is preferred.
Whereas: The previous limit of $400.00 for the transfer of Council Funds as provided under Article VII of the By-Laws was appropriate several years ago, an adjustment of the limit to $500.00 is appropriate and needed to conduct routine Council business.
Whereas: The dues previously set aside expressly and exclusively for the "Building Fund" could not be used for any other purpose. The Council deems it appropriate to not restrict five (5%) of the new dues collected to the Building Fund but rather provide for the building fund via a budgetary item in the annual budget. Said Fund will continue to exist and the allocation of the Council's dues for the Building Fund will be a budgetary matter and not a mandatory by-law assessment.
Therefore be it RESOLVED THAT The Father Peter Paul Maher Council No. 6793 of the Knights of Columbus in its general business meeting following notification as required during the preceding meeting of June 13, 2007, does this 11th Day of July, 2007, amend the by-laws of the Council to change the following:

  1. Article I; Sec 3 - dues of the members shall be $45.00, ...
  2. Article IV; Sec 1 - All meetings shall commence at 7:30 P.M. ...
  3. Article VII; Sec. 3 - No money in excess of $500.00 shall be ....
  4. Article VII, Sec 5 - Delete Reference to Building Fund.
