Grand Knight's Message
We finally finished the very busy month of October, starring a robust Tootsie Roll Campaign, a lively Columbus Day Ball, a competitive Art Auction, a well-attended Afternoon Tea & Fellowship for the Ladies of our Council, an impressive 1st degree exemplification to bring in a few new Brothers recruited in our membership drives, a fun soccer shoot-out for our children, and a spirited Inwood House Halloween Celebration.
November will feature a Spaghetti Dinner, a Happy Thanksgiving, and a 2nd degree exemplification opportunity for our 1st degree Brother Knights to move up in the Knights of Columbus and in our Council.
Thank you for your participation to Help Us Help Others!
Thank you, Harry F. Bushar, your Grand Knight.
Chaplain's Message
by Father David A. Wathen
The Saints Point the Way
On our journey through life it is inevitable that there will be difficulties and trials. This is true both in our daily experiences of life in general and in our struggles in the spiritual life. We need to be encouraged to continue to "fight the good fight" and to keep our eyes on the prize.
The Lord is well aware of our need for encouragement and that is why we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints on the first of November every year. On this day He points to all the saints, that countless number of men and women who are now with Him in heaven and reminds us: "Where they are you also will one day be, if you never give up trying to be faithful to My love and to the graces I send you on your journey of faith." The saints remind us of our destiny: a share in eternal life with our loving God.
The Church reminds us that many have already attained their destiny and are with God for all eternity. Some of these saints are our own friends and relatives. They are awaiting our arrival and pray that we will remain open to God's saving grace and that we will persevere in trying to live our lives according to His will.
With God's help we can one day join the company of saints and share in the joy of being in His presence for all eternity. This is truly an encouraging message.
District Deputy Message
by Ernest E. Harley - District Deputy, # 11
The Supreme Membership/Recruitment Blitz is now over. It is time to convert all of those persons that have indicated a desire to be members of the greatest organization, the Knights of Columbus. The individuals that have signed Form 100s, now need to be sent through the admission committees, and presented for First Degree, the initial leg of the journey to Knighthood. That form, that offers the list of opportunities to participate in the various Program Areas of volunteer activity, should be strenuously explained, in order that the individual understand the advantages of being a Knight of Columbus. Do not allow time to creep in between the interview and the Exemplification of the First Degree, for fear of the lost of interest of vital candidates.
Those individuals, that have signed cards of interest, now must be approached with all of the information about the works of the Knights of Columbus, and convinced that they are missing a great opportunity, and important times of their lives, and should sign an application, a Form 100. Included in this group are the individuals that did not sign a card of interest. If you know the individual, go back, and again, speak to that individual, one on one, and maybe you will stir his interest in signing the Form 100, and in the interview peak his interest in becoming a Knight of Columbus.
A lot of work went into the various Blitz programs of the various Councils. Now is the time to gain important membership increases from those individuals that were spoken to by members of the Knights of Columbus during the Membership/Recruitment Blitz.
Fraternal Benefits
WHAT IF?
If you knew that today was the last chance you would ever have to buy additional life insurance, how much would you buy? If you had a money-making machine, that once broken, could never be repaired, how much would you insure it for?
If you knew that today was the last time you would have the opportunity to guarantee your family an income if something happened to you, how much income would you give them? If you knew that today marked the end of your ability to buy future retirement security, how much would you buy?
Isn't it safe to say that you would put some additional dollars into more life insurance protection that could be used for family or retirement benefits?
Chances are that you will be around for a long time, but life is full of "ifs" and surprises, isn't it?
Let me help you plan for the future. Call me today.
Fraternally,
Rick Morin, FICF/LUTCF

See the Film "Bella"
Excerpted from an Email from Our Worthy State Deputy, Edgar Haynes:
Our Supreme Knight recently sent a letter to all District Deputies, Grand Knights and Financial Secretaries regarding the film "Bella", which opened in most cities on 10/26. It is a heartwarming and inspirational film about an unwed mother and her decision to choose life. It presents a positive message about the culture of life we support as Knights.
Our Supreme Knight has asked us to help make this film a success and send a message to Hollywood that wholesome movies will be well received at the box office.
Bits and Pieces
Breakfast With Saint Nick - Volunteers Needed
Each year the Brothers and spouses of Fr. Peter Paul Maher Council prepare and cook mountains of pancakes and sausage to feed the hungry parishioners who attend St. Peter's Breakfast with St. Nick. This year the event will occur on Saturday, December 1 at St. Peter's Parish Hall. There will be 2 servings, one at 8 am and the other at 10 am. The first wave of Knights will arrive promptly at 5 am to begin preparation and we usually finish cleaning up by 1 pm. We need 6 to 8 volunteers for two, four-hour shifts, 5 am to 9 am or 9 am to 1 pm. Spouses are welcome to participate.
Please contact Harry Bushar at (301) 929-1425 to volunteer and thank you for your help.
